Dear internet, please make me pretty!
(1) I'm almost out of facial moisturizer, and I'm ready for a change. I've been using Neutrogena products, but they're starting to feel a little harsh to me. I have somewhat sensitive skin, and it's getting drier all the time. I just started using Philosophy's "Hope in a Tube" on my eyes, and I adore it - so I'm considering shelling out the cash for the facial cream. Has anyone used it? Any other recommendations? If I do the Philosophy moisturizer, then I would also need a sunscreen for my face, so please suggest those, too.
(2) I'd like to get a straightening iron for my hair. I wear it naturally wavy/curly most days, but sometimes I want to look a bit more sleek. I've been told to get ceramic plates and not to go super cheap, but I don't want to spend an unreasonable amount of cash. I looked at this in the store, but I really have no idea what I'm doing. Help!
(3) The hair needs...something. It bores me right now. I like the cut, but everything else is dull. Wearing it wavy means I have a constant halo of dry frizz and my natural highlights get obscured in the curls. I've got just about every color except black in my hair - brown, blond, red, and sadly white/grey. I could maybe punch up the red color with a dye? Or get some highlights? Or just get a fancy gloss serum? Or get over it and do nothing. I need the internet to tell me what to do! (Of course, my husband gets the final say.)

I have been having face issues too. I was using Aveeno for getting older skin. HA! It totally dried me out. I had a sample of philosophy's hope in a jar, hope in a tube and the clean face wash. My face totally changed. No more dry. No more flaky. I will start paying the big bucks for it all.
I hope you find the right fit for your face.
I have an awesome hair straightener thing that my aunt (who is a professional stylist) got me. I won't be using it for at least the next 2 months+ if you want to give it a whirl. You can test it out without shelling out the money if it's not the kind you want. Just a thought!
If only I had answers for you...I am in the same boat. I will say that as far as skin products go, I really like Aveda. Expensive YES. Worth it YES. As for the hair, I have no advice. My hair is awful.
Chi. That's what you need--a Chi hair straightener. They use them in the salons and though they are pricey, you'll never need another one. I asked for one for Christmas, and I wouldn't trade it for anything (well, any other hair products, that is!).
You'll love how straight the Chi makes your hair! I LOVE mine. If there is any humidity in the air, my hair usually gets wavy immediately. But, not with Chi!!! I realize I sound like a commercial, but it really is the best straightener on the market!
As for facial products...I got nothing for ya. :)
Well I know I'll probaby see you today and could tell you in person but in case not...I don't have much help in the facial moisturizer area...I usually use the Oil of Olay stuff. My mom got me the Mary Kay face lotion at one point and it was great but I can't afford it on my own. As for hair straighteners, I've heard the Chi is the best, too, but is way more than I can afford. Honestly? I have a Revlon, I think it was $20, and it works fine for my needs right now. Have you seen my hair straightened? It's so curly and wavy since having kids so I have to use the flatiron to get it straight. I just make sure to use a special product to protect my hair from the intense heat of the iron. I can show you mine, too, if you want to compare. As for your hair...I love getting highlights. I know it's not terribly "natural" but it can just add so much. Especially in the winter when we're all so pasty-looking, good highlights can give your look that extra "oomph." I have a good stylist if you want her name, but it would be a little far from you (north Wheaton). She has her own business but used to work at Frank Gironda (where I used to go). Her prices are slightly less, though, now that she's on her own. Now that I've written enough to disqualify this as a "comment"...I'll probably see you later... :)
well i use aveeno for my face & am currently wearing a $40 wig over my 1in dreadlocks. I like aveeno & some of their products have sunscreen.
Philosophy is good stuff. I used it for a long time--the moisturizer I used was called The Present (they have such kooky names for their products) and I think I used a cleanser called...well, I guess I can't remember...something about "Clean." :) Anyway, I now use Bioelements, which I also really like, but those have to be purchased from a salon and I don't know of one around here that sells it. Also used Aveda for a while and liked it, but right now my favorite is the Bioelements. Have fun--I love new face stuff! :)
I use a Remington straightening iron that I got at Target for $30. It has ceramic plates, and I have been very happy with it so far. As for facial moisturizers, I have no suggestions for you, as I need to find something new as well. Let me know what you decide to get.
I love my straightener - it's a Conair (Alpha Omega style I think) that you can use on wet or dry hair and I got it at Target for around $30. The thing I especially like is that the plates curve, so you can flip the ends out or under (or just pull straight through to keep it stick straight). I love how sleek my hair turns out. When I'm done, I rub a little leave-in conditioner through it to tame any fly-aways, spritz a little hair spray and I'm good to go. Faster than blow drying everyday, that's for sure!
Happy hunting!
Okay, my pointers are really cheap, but have you tried Dove? I really like their Sensitive Skin lotion, and they also have a Deep Moisture lotion (each has accompanying cleansers). It's priced so that if you didn't like it, it wouldn't be so bad to have to ditch it.
I really like the Neutrogena alcohol-free toner--that's a bummer that their stuff isn't working for you anymore. I used an Avon product for a while (they also have some pretty good stuff, and they have good sales occasionally--you can order online or through a rep), but they discontinued "my" product. =(
i recently started using a burt's bees brand face lotion, and then whatever kind of natural soaps i can find...usually local. my face is a lot better when i eat well and drink tons of water. :)
don't go cheap on a straightener. seriously. i know from experience. ceramic is a must.
There are so many things I would like to change about myself. Like the wrinkles that have popped up on my forehead and wont go away. My constantly curly thick hair that never wants to be tamed unless I devote hours to it. And my teeth. There's just so much wrong there.
In the end, I just try to love myself for what I am.
Wow, I am now inspired to go try some new moisturizer and maybe even the hair straightener, LOL!
I have heard good things about the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer/sunscreen combo, but it is a little pricy.
